Department of Theory of Law and Human Rights

Brief history

The revival of the Faculty of Law at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University took place on 1 May 1992. Since then, the Department of Theory and History of State and Law has been operating within its structure. At the time of its establishment, the department included renowned scholars and practitioners who jointly contributed to its formation and further development: PhD in Law, Associate Professors A.Dubrovina, K. Yanosh; PhD in Philosophy A. Kozlovskyi, PhD in History, Associate Professors P. Patsurkivskyi, M. Nykyforak, Y. Kurko. Doctor of Law, Professor V. Muntyan was elected Head of the Department.

Since September 1993, the Department has been headed by PhD in Law, Associate Professor V. Marchuk. In 2001-2008, the Department was headed by Doctor of Law, Professor A. Kozlovskyi; from September 2008 to January 2017 – Doctor of Law, Professor M. Nykyforak; from January 2017 to December 2021 – PhD in Law, Associate Professor S. Savchuk. Currently, the department is headed by Doctor of Law, Professor N. Huralenko.

According to the order of the Rector of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University No. 141 dated 11.11.2014, the Department was renamed to the Department of Philosophy, Theory and History of Law; on 27.04.2018, according to the order of the Rector No. 113, to the Department of Human Rights; on 11.05.2021, according to the order of the Rector No. 184, to the Department of Theory of Law and Human Rights.

Activities

The educational process is provided by the qualified teaching staff of the Department: 1 Doctor of Law, Professor (N. Huralenko), 3 PhDs in Law, Associate Professors (O. Bunchuk, O. Voloshchuk, O.Maksymiuk), and 3 PhDs in Law, Assistants (O. Donchenko, T. Hrekul-Kovalyk, O. Myroniuk).

The scientific work is carried out within the framework of the departmental topic ‘Protection of human rights’ (State registration number: 0121U109357).
